Well, yes. However, having a domain will make your life easier, or perhaps having multiple domains to define each and every server that you are using for your projects. For websites, you would pinpoint the domain to your server which would allow users to open your site using yourdomain.com on their web-browser. This gives it a professional feel and it is much easier to remember that way, however, you'll need to know how to host a website, pay annual fees, and be able to play around with DNS.

Email hosting has a similar premise, but the domain is used in your emails such as you@yourdomain.com, this could make your email look tidier, more brandished and trustworthy. You'll also have more control over your email system for your project or business, since you can create multiple different emails your customer could use to get into contact, such as support@yourdomain.com, or report@yourdomain.com. Setting this up is also complex and can be difficult for beginners, and it would also require a seperate hosting package for your email server.

What are some Domain Extensions?

There's a ridiculous amount of domain extensions, but the basic ones are;

• .com: for commercial sites, and usually the default that people will use. It is the most recognized and easiest to remember, however many domain names for this extension are taken.
• .org: as per the name, this one is usually for Organisations. These have more availability than .com and are also a trusted extension.
• .net: for networks or tech sites.
• .co: usually used for Start-ups, have seen more of these for UK businesses than in other countries.
• .io: tech projects, and startups. This extension is popular in tech, however, it is more expensive and less known for casual web scrollers.
• .dev: for developers.
